Ashclad builds a small and sturdy machine out of scraps and the old hull of an old war-boat. On his way to the Great Tourney, he meets and befriends his two Good Helpers: the Rockeater and the ex-prisoner Adie. Together they win the tourney, overthrows the Kings diobolical plans and the heart of the Princess.
